2006 SA Juniors Results

Results of the Gauteng team that participated in the 2006 Inter-Regional Table Tennis Championships, in East London, 3-8 July:

Team Event: (3 players per team, best of 7 matches)
17 regions participated

Under 14 Girls:
Danisha Patel, Justine Butler, Lareen Louw      
            -  Reached semi-final, where they beat Boland, 4/1
            -  They lost in the final to Griqualand West (GW),1/4
            -  Awarded Silver Medal

Under 17 Boys:
Paul Wernich, Lloyd Reddy, Chettan Nathoo

Reached semi-final, where they were hotly contested by Boland, but managed to beat them 4/3. In final, they lost to Western Province (WP), 0/4 ( final = best of 7). Awarded Silver Medal

Under 20 Girls:
Shireen Lyners, Dana Samowitz, Aakifah Mohammed
-  Battle of the Gautengelengers:

Beat Eastern Gauteng (EG), 4/2, in semi-final. Clobbered Gauteng North (GN), in final, 4/1. Gold Medal

Under 20 Boys
Chris Lau, Ilan Shein, Johnathan Wernich

Lost to western Province in the semis , 4-0. Beat Southern Free State for 3rd place, 4-3

Open event – Individual Singles (best of 5 games)

Under 12 Girls:

Lareen Louw wins Gold Medal, by beating C Barit (EG), 3 games to 1.

Under 14 Girls

Danisha Patel beats fellow team mate Justine Butler, to reach the semi- final, where she narrowly loses to S Martins ( Boland) in 5 games. Received bronze medal

Under 17 Boys

Lloyd Reddy and Paul Wernich both reach quarter-final rounds in their respective matches but both lose to Western Province and Southern Free State respectively

Under 17 Girls

Very big upset in the tournament as Danisha Patel (u14) beats one of the u17girls’ favourites, Gila Barit (EG), in a tense 5 game match.  Danisha thus secures a place in the semi-final where she unfortunately loses to Southern Free State. Received bronze medal

Under 20 Girls
It was Gauteng North vs Gauteng Central in the semis:

Dana Samowitz beat P Mazibuko (GN), 13/11,11/9,and 11/6. Shireen Lyners beat M Law (GN), 12,9,7.

Gauteng Central Final:  Shireen Lyners beats Dana Samowitz, 12/10,11/9,11/7.
Shireen receives Gold medal and Dana receives Silver.

Open event – Doubles

U12 Girls
L Louw (GC) and N Mngoma (Border) won a bronze medal.

U17 Girls
R Dawson and T Nord won a bronze medal.

U20 Girls
S Lyners and D Samowitz beat M Law and D Faure in 3 games to win gold.

U 20 Boys
C Lau and I Shein won a bronze medal.

Open event – Mixed Doubles

U12
L Louw and partner won bronze.

U 20
S Lyners and C Lau beat D Samowitz and T Cogil (WP) in 3 sets to win gold.
