EDDIE TAKES TABLE TENNIS TITLE

Eddie Sisya of Johannesburg club Maccabi is the newly crowned Central Gauteng senior table tennis champion after beating off a stiff challenge from club mate Chijioki Osuji to take the crown for the first time.

Central Gauteng’s top female player is Shireen Lyners (Flames), who defended her title against former South African champion Margie Luckay (Anchors) to win a tight match 4-3.

Sisya and Osuji underlined their dominance by winning the men’s doubles title against their club mates, Simon Dimant and Alon Argaman. Margie Luckay teamed up with Gila Barit (Maccabi) to win the women’s doubles title against Shaakira and Aakifa Mahomed (Anchors).

In the Gauteng Central Junior championships, Paul Werner of Randburg club Blue Fountains annexed the Under 20 title by beating Ilan Shein (Maccabi).

Shireen Lyners followed up her win in the senior event by taking the Under 20 crown with a good win over Nabeela Bhamjee (Lens).

Wernich had to be content with the silver medal in the Under 17 category, where he was beaten by Lloyd Reddy in the final. Chandini Natha won the girls Under 17 category by defeating Gila Barit.

In other action, Kalpesh Itchu beat Arno Ferero to win the Boy Under 14 title while Danisha Patel took the Girls Under 14 crown with a win over Khanyisile Mdlalala.
