Wits Brings Young and Old Together
By Filipe
The Old Mutual Sports Hall, deep within Wits University, played host to a great day of Table Tennis antics, tactics and sportsmanship on the 8 September 2007.
The day was attended by a good cross section of young and old enthusiasts from far a field as Tshwane and Sedibeng. As with any tournament, there were some challenges that required nifty footwork by the Organisers, but in the end, it was all concluded in good spirits and in a timely manner.
In total, 44 players attended the tournament.
There were no major surprises from amongst the seeds except for Boetie Raats (GN) deposing of Dale in a flurry of pimples and dead-racket controlled play.
The final score:
A Section - Osuji (Gold), Alon (Silver), Uwe (Bronze), and Paul (Bronze).
B Section - Itchu Kalpesh (Gold), Yi Ling Dong (Silver), Don (Bronze) and Kun Lau (Bronze)
Congratulations to Wits Table Tennis Club for hosting a spectacular tournament; and a sad farewell to Oteng who will be leaving WTTC at the end of the year to take up residency in Botswana. He leaves behind shoes that will be difficult to fill.
