School Leads the Coaching Way

by Filipe

The King’s School in Robinhills has taken the initiative in enacting a mini sports academy within its grounds. On a weekly basis, coaches from various sporting federations, congregate on the school grounds to further athleticism amongst the young enthusiasts.

Table Tennis is one of the sporting codes that is catered for.

With an average of 15 athletes, ranging between 6 and 13 years of age, pitching up on a weekly basis, the coaching activities are hectic indeed. But having 2 coaches (Filipe & Gavin) and 1 learner coach (Glen) on hand, the various levels of competencies are attended too. Control and continuity is also ensured.

A typical coaching session comprises of theoretical work; a warm up session; footwork, balance and agility exercises; stroke play; over-the-table interactive games and free play.

One of the ideals of the school is to win medals at the SACSSA National Championships in October 2010. Only time will tell, but given all the visible enthusiasm amongst the school administrators, athletes and coaches alike, success is sure to follow.
