Gauteng Central Players Win at Gauteng North Vets Open

The Gauteng North Table Tennis Association held a veterans tournament at the Joni Bach Centre in Pretoria North on the 24th May 2014.

The categories played where Gauteng Central achieved medals in:

Mens doubles: Ettienne de Villiers (GN) and Bennie Smith (GN) won the event and Rainer Sztab (Macabbi Table Tennis) and Abdul Hay (Blue Fountains Table Tennis Club) won the silver
Mixed doubles : Abdul Hay (Blue Fountains Table Tennis Club) and Louise de Villiers (Anchors Table Tennis Club) won the event
Ladies singles over 35 : was won by Louise de Villiers (Anchors Table Tennis)
Mens over 50 : was won by Rainer Sztab (Macabbi Table Tennis Club)
Mens over 40 : was won by Abdul Hay (Blue Fountains Table Tennis Club), Rainer Sztab won the silver medal (Macabbi Table Tennis Club)

The spirit of all the players was of a very friendly nature and the tournament organisers held a very successful tournament where the veterans players had a good platform to compete in. The singles format was run a group format of round robin matches with the top 2 progressing to the knock out stages. The doubles were a straight knock out format.

Well done to Gauteng North and hopefully there will be an even larger turn out of players for their future tournaments.
